Australia gears up for whaling fight

Australia is stepping up attempts to block Japan's bid to resume commercial whaling with Environment Minister Ian Campbell conducting a whistlestop tour of the Pacific.

Mr Campbell subsequently issued a veiled threat to small vulnerable nations who may be considering voting for the sustainable use of whale resources:

Secret ballots are necessary to prevent bullying and threats of boycotts from powerful developed nations against small developing nations.

Sustainable use supporters have been threatened with boycotts in the past (see the link below for an example involving Dominica)
